What an Achievement!

julia

The best graduate at FISIB is Julia Mufarroha, the student of English Study Program. It was announced at graduation ceremony, 16 Sept, 2020, held virtually.

She said that many people around me do not know about myself, that I’m a girl who has a lot of targets. Something that I get today is never separated from a list of my big dreams. Becoming one of the best students is a target that I have ever written in my book dream four years ago. I ever visualized one of my big dreams to be the best student in my college. I visualized it on my mind that I would get special invitation and give speech to motivate other students. And today it happens to me, it’s really great I think. I never thought that this dream will come true.  As like I cannot believe that the universe shows the result and says to me that “it’s something that you want”.  WOW that’s really fantastic, my efforts and prayer paid off. In this time, I only say to myself, thank you so much for doing a struggle, thank you so much for standing in your way and thank you so much, you have proven to yourself.

When I’m thinking about this moment, I think that I’m the right person to get this chance. Yeah I know, for getting this opportunity is really difficult, but I believe that I’m able to make it through. I still remember my process during 4 years here, where I did my best efforts for always getting a good score when I got exam, be an active student in various activities, about how I can balance my activities in college and in my organizations, how I try to join national and international events. All of things I try is to increase my ability, my quality and the best identity based on my best version.

Thanks a lot for all my best lecturers in English Department who always build up and guide us. Hopefully your blessings keep flowing on me and my friends in arms. And for all of my juniors in English Department, keep fighting. My expectation, you will be the next diamond for English Department that can make us proud of you. Keep up your spirits, your struggle will be over at this college. Thus, use your time wisely hone the quality of yourself for a better person who can give contributions for our next generation later. I believe that you can do it more than me, you can proof that you are able to be the best generation after me.

WE DARE TO SPEAK ENGLISH

On Saturday, May 9th, 2020, HAMLET organized Online Discussion Performance (ODP) in LIVE IG. The theme is “Improving English Skill during Self Quarantine”. The speaker is Eka Nur Musfi’atin and the moderator is Masnuah. Both speaker and the moderator are students of English Study Program. The speaker put emphasis on tips and tricks to improving speaking skill by increasing grammar, vocabulary and pronounciation. First, to improve grammar, English learners are strongly suggested to watch western movies and intensively read news in platform or television with English language. This is because sometimes people become fast learners by listening or watching something or using their audiotory. Second, to improve English vocabularies, learners can practice by sticking paper that contains word on objects that are easily seen. For example: “door”, “radio”, “newspaper”, “motorcycle”, or they can input sentences like “please open the door”. Improving vocabulary can be also achieved by writing diary using English without dictionary, then after finishing it, they can check it in dictionary whether the used vocabularies are right or not. Third, to improve pronunciation, learners must not underestimate the basic competence in pronouncing letters A-Z properly because it can influence the clarity of their pronunciation while speaking. Learners can practice saying A-Z in one breath so they must say it as fast as possible. They can also improve their pronounciation by learning and practicing phonetic symbol in dictionary.

20200519_123117

No shy, no worry, no afraid of, be confident and speak up your mind are five pillars that are crucial to improve the speaking fluency. The most important thing is that English learners must be crazy in speaking. The term ‘crazy’ here does not refer to mental illness but learners should speak up their mind, do not be shy and do not be afraid of if they make mistakes because people can be successful in learning English by making mistakes.

One of the purposes of this Online Discussion Performance is to engage the students of English Study Program while learning from home in more useful activities. Moreover, by joining this ODP, the participants can also immediately discuss their learning problems related to English Skill, speaking in particular. Most of the participants in this ODP are students of English Study Program, Department of Social and Cultural Sciences, Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, Universitas Trunojoyo Madura. But there are participants from other faculties, including public.

Many wonder what kinds of employment that they are going to have after graduating from a higher educational institution. It is believed that most of the students dream to have a job that is relevant to their major. Many students are also worried about either their later jobs will be appropriate with the degree and knowledge that they have gained at the University or not. Does their qualification guarantee a decent job for them later in the corporate world? And many other questions from students. The biggest problem, however, is that most of the students are in a dark of their potentials. Therefore, it is a crucial issue to discuss.

The speaker also did not hesitate to share their own experiences to motivate participants to pick up their success later. Believe it or not, someone’s success depends on himself. Therefore, to explore the potential in oneself is a must. This is because revealing potentials of ours is the key to opening the door to our success in the future.

EJVED

EJVED (East Java English Debate) is one of the popular competitions in East Java. This event held by UKMF Legato (HMP Bhs Inggris) State University of Malang. This year is the second time UTM joins this event and there are 36 teams from many universities. There are 4 preliminary rounds with 2 prepared motions. Most of the motion talks about international relations. Such as the U.S Politics, Sudan conflict, Japan vs South Korea, African-American, and etc. Besides that, the motion also talks about education, religion, and etc.

ft-1

This year we compete with UMM, ITS, and UB. Well, these universities send more than 2 teams to join ejved. For example like UMM A , UMM B, UMM C or ITS A ITS B and etc. Only UTM sends 1 delegate and also we don’t have any coach. We learn and practice by ourselves.

In a preliminary round, we only got 2 vp and break 11th in octofinalis (top 16). In octofinalis we met UMM B and we win for this round. Then in the quaterfinal we met ITS C and we won this round too. But in the semifinal, we lose from UB A. So, to get 3rd place we met ITS A. Alhamdulillah all the hard work was paid off. This year UTM (for the very first time) Got 3rd place and Me (Kriswandi) and andra as my partner Got top 10 best speakers. I am in 8th rank and andra in 10th position. Well, melinda also did a great job. With a minimum of budget, we survive and try to give the best for UTM. EJVED is a rollercoaster, Up and Down, and full of emotion. The debate is not about fluently in English, but it’s all about hard work and how you analysis the problem.
